Things I did on Saturday

1. Discovered first-hand that indeed, we need a new air mattress for our guests. Cold, deflating piece of plastic that it is.

2. Found myself locked in the stall of the men's bathroom at McDonald's of all places.

3. Found myself crawling on the floor of said bathroom to get out of said stall.

4. Washed hands thoroughly.

5. Ate a sausage biscuit and hash-browns while driving.

6. Saw a mountain chain of dark clouds; within half-an-hour, found ourselves under the mountain of dark clouds. (They really did look like mountains from a distance, except we knew they couldn't be, as there are no mountains in Indiana.)

7. Sat for almost three hours in cold, windy, cloudy weather, waiting for that moment when you finally hear that person's name you were waiting to be called and see them walk across the platform to collect a piece of paper that warrants sitting in said weather for said amount of time.

8. Asked the question, "So where is this restaurant? Is it downtown?" Received the vague answer, "No, I don't think so."

9. Drove through crazy traffic to find that the chosen lunch restaurant was indeed only a few blocks from Sears Tower.

10. Lucky to find a metered parking spot right in front of said restaurant.

11. Ate lots of tasty foods: baghali polo (dill rice); kabob koubideh (ground meat kabob) some with ground lamb, some with ground beef, some with ground chicken; marinated boneless chicken kabob; succulent lamb shank in a dark sauce; grilled potato; vegetable stew; chicken and barley soup with fresh dill; mast-o-khiar (mint and cucumber yoghurt); bomieh for dessert (crispy-yet-soaked-in-sweet-syrupy-goodness pastries).

12. Left with a full stomach and thankfully light traffic.

13. Bopped around the downtown with hip-hop music blaring and a laid-back Linus driving with one hand on the top of the steering wheel.

14. Took a couple boilermakers (who had been our kind hosts the night before) out to dinner at a fun Mexican restaurant owned and run by real Mexicans.

15. Conversed with said boilermakers until we realized it was 10 p.m. and we were still 4 hours away from our final destination and church was to start at 9 a.m.

16. Drove home with a huge orange moon and plenty of conversation to keep awake some pretty sleepy drivers.

Sounds like you had an adventure in my backyard! A tasty one at that.

We didn't know we were going to be in your backyard until the day of. I also knew you were studying for finals, writing papers, etc., and didn't want to tempt you. But, we will go to the tasty restaurant by Sears Tower together this year, I predict. The boilermakers want us to all meet up in that city.

An amazing gastronomical, cousins adventure with a cool graduation thrown in. Sounded like something only the young can do. Mutti

Apparently the young can't even handle it. I ended up with a cold that has yet to leave me alone.

Very cool sounding day! Except for that crawling out of the men's bathroom part. Eww. Isn't it cool to have traveling partners who offer great conversation during those long drives? Love the description of the food, too. I should probably not read your posts when I'm hungry. : )
